BURFORD SABRE RESTORATION.

Here's the engine as it was received by Mr Henderson.

First step, dismantle and assess the damage.

OK, so a little bit of work required. First step is to remove the old main shaft bush and apply some restorative measures to the crankcase, then fit a new main bearing.

We started with the cylinder head restoration on this engine as we could fit it in along side some other anodising work that needed to be done. Here's the progress.

START...........

MIDDLE.............

FINISH....................

Next up will be the refurbishment of the crankcase and main bush.

Now we''ll get the original cylinder liner restored and made ready to receive the new piston and contra.

Next up is to finish off the bottom end and new conrod.

And here we have the new con rod all finished.

Here's the new piston and contra all machined and fitted to the restored original cylinder liner.

In the meantime, here's the cleaned up original back plate ready to go back onto the case.

Now lets get on with the rest of the bottom end.

Here we have the crankcase all finished along with the needle valve assembly cleaned up and refitted with a new fuel jet made as well.

Nest we'll do the new crankshaft as the old one was just to worn out to warrant refitting. This will give us the opportunity to manufacture it with the correct counter balance etc.

New crankshaft machined up to stage 1.

Next is to machine in the big end, counterbalance, then port and polish.

And all finished.

Now we'll get on and reassemble it.

So here he is all reassembled and looking for some fuel.

Let's go find him some fuel.
