TAIPAN MK5 RESTORATION

Here's the engine as received from Mr Henderson.

WOW, quite a bit of TLC is needed here.......

So again with this engine we will start with the removal of the crank shaft main bush and a complete restoration of the crankcase after which a new shaft bush will be made and fitted. LOL actually slight change in plans as we will in fact do the cylinder head restoration first along with a number of other projects also needing anodizing work done.

Here's the results

START......

STOP.........

Now we'll do the crankcase etc..

Next up is to clean up and restore the original cylinder liner ready for the new piston and contra piston.

Here's the new piston and contra piston blanks all ready for final machining and fitting to the cylinder.

Here's the new con rod.

And here we have the new piston and cylinder assembly all finished and ready to re fit to the rest of the engine.

Here's the original back plate nicely cleaned up and ready to refit to the case along with a new gasket.

Now we'll catch the bottom end up.

Here is the crankcase all sorted and ready to receive the rest of the restored parts, along with the refurbished N.V.A which comprises a new fuel jet as the original one was bent.

Nest up is the replacement crankshaft as the original part was not worth saving, added bonus is that now we can make it correctly balanced and with some slightly better porting.

Here's the crankshaft blank all finished to stage one.

And the next stage.......

And here's the new crankshaft all finished and ready to reinstall.

Now we'll move on to the reassembly stage of this rebuild.

And voila, all ready for a test run, now, where'd that fuel bottle go?

Here's the first pop test run.

Restart test run.
