GERLAD WIMMERS WOHM "5"

Gerald's report on his WOHM "5" engine's performance and handling.
WOHM “5” from Cre8tionworx , review by Gerald Wimmer
The WOHM “5” is a 5cc or .29cu diesel with standard CL venturi that is ball raced and front induction.
With twin ball racers and a nice fit it flips over very smoothly and is not a cranky or a finger biter with easy consistent starts the norm.
It is very nicely finished with dark green anodising that has proved very durable after hours of running.
We have been flying the WOHM “5” in a Brodak Flite Streak I built for it a few years ago.
My son Otto and I have flown it in a number of contests and it has proven to be a sound reliable engine that will easily start in the 1 minute start time but like most diesel engines a pre warm up in the pits is wise. Besides the delightful deep exhaust sound it is very economic to run only needing an ounce of fuel to fly the classic pattern.
The run characteristics have improved over time as you can gradually lean it out which removes any tendency to run backwards or labour after a long run, in fact I will need to downsize the tank for a third time as it uses less fuel after running in.
The propellor I first chose to keep the load light for the first hour of running was a 10x6 but have I have now settled on an 11.3x8 prop which seems to work very well with its high torque running characteristics. The fuel I use is 35%E, 25%Oil, 2% DII and 38% Jet A1 or Kerosene.
