ELFIN 2.49 REBUILD

Here's the engine as we received it from Ken, straight out of the rubbish bin.

First step, attempt to dismantle it without incurring any more damage.

Well it took a bunch of heat and effort, a little bit of sweat and a few tears but we finally got the little gem apart with only a broken con-rod to replace. Turns out the piston was rust welded into the liner.

Here's the crankcase all nicely cleaned up and ready to have some other nice clean parts refitted to it.

O.K. So the next step is to clean up the back plate, cylinder head and cylinder liner.

Next up is to manufacture a new crankshaft and conrod.

New crankshaft, first stage........

And all finished.........

Here we have the newly manufactured, collet, prop washer and nut and the cleaned up original prop driver.

Progress to date.

Next up is to make the replacement conrod.

Here is the progress to date...........

New rod fitted, cleaned up original backplate fitted with a newly manufactured gasket.

N.V.A. is next then on to the cylinder liner and piston assembly.
