ED MK2 GLOW RACER

here's the engine as we recieved it from Adrian stating"please make it run perfectly again" O.k. mate no problem.

First step, dismantle and prepare for the rebuild.

Now lets get on with the job...........

Having cleaned and inspected the engine as it was presented to us we have decided to start with replaceing the original conrod as it is worn in the little end quite badly and also slightly in the big end as well. As this is an example of a vintage engine that's been modified for racing we also decided that it could do owith the upgrade from a cast rod to a billet machined rod.

Next up we reassembled the crankcase with the nicely cleaned bearings, crank and front end, adding the new conrod as well. After this was done next up came relappiing the cylinder liner back to a nice mirror finish and while we were there we also adjusted the bore geometry to a more modern set of tapers and fits.

Next up came the new piston and gudgeon pin.

Here he is all reassembled with the original cylinder fins cleaned and the original head that came with the engine.

Next it's onto the backplate which did in fact require a replacement disc pin, due to excessive movement of the pin in the backplate and also a very poor disc to plate fit,  so while we had it appart we also took the liberty of refacing the running faces of the backplate and the intake disc. Having made a new pin we went ahead and reassembled the backplate unit and refitted it to the rest of the engine.

Now we just need to get to the test stand and make some noise with him.

Second test run.

And unplugged.

Another vintage engine saved.
