E.D. RACER SERIES 2 RESTORATION

Here's the engine as we received it from Ken.

OH DEAR, definitely seen better days, lets see what can be done to reverse the effects of time.

First step, completely dismantle the engine and clean it up.

Well apart from the corrosion he's not looking to bad.

OK so the first step in this restoration project is to get the crankcase back from the brink of the rubbish bin and make it look as close to new as is realistically possible. Let's see what can be done to achieve that.

BEFORE.

DURING..........

FINAL RESULT.............

Well that came up quite nice, if I do say so myself. Many thanks to the Wizard of Magnesium reconditioning, we are in your debt.

Now to clean and sort through the rest of the parts and see what's needed.

Here are the restored anodized parts and the restored original cylinder head ready for refitting to the restored crankcase.

We have replaced the 2 crankshaft bearings and cleaned and refitted the original crankshaft to the restored crankcase. We have also assembled the rest of the front end.

Here's the progress so far.

Here we have the original back plate cleaned up and ready to reinstall. We also managed to salvage the original gasket as well.

And progress so far, Original con-rod cleaned and refitted with the back plate assembly also refitted to the crankcase. New original spec 6BA bolts have also been sourced and used.

And, here's the original needle valve assembly all cleaned up and refitted to the engine.

Now its onto the cylinder and piston assembly.
